Cory’s Corner: Well That’s Finally Done

Football is Here

The NFL has finally arrived and every year feels like Christmas Ever for me. The excitement about the possibilities for each team, how they will do throughout the year and what players will have exceptional or terrible seasons, is rivaled only by opening presents on Christmas Day.

My favorite storylines:

Baker Mayfield meets Odell Beckham Jr.

Kyler Murray grows into the NFL

Can Marcus Mariota stay healthy

Are the Bills actually good

Will the Cowboys collapse or rise

Will the Ravens offense be revolutionary

How long will Deshaun Watson Survive

Can Mahomes do it again

Well That’s Finally Done

Ezekiel Elliott gets his deal, probably the deal the Cowboys were comfortable with paying but would have much rather not dealt. They are trying to figure out how to get everybody paid under the salary cap and it looks like they can, they’ll just have to make some switches down the road.

However, there is one thing that is undeniable, and that is that this team is better with Elliott in the backfield. The offense is far more flexible and that’s not something that we’ve seen taken advantage of in the Jason Garrett era, hopefully with Kellen Moore at the helm, this offense will find more ways to get the ball into his hands without turning around and stuffing it in his gut from behind the line of scrimmage. He’s explosive once he hits the line, but the team has a multitude of players that can create in space. Let’s see what Moore is capable of doing with that space.

The Giants Are Huge Underdog

I understand that the Giants are a bad team. There is a lot of chaos in New York, but man, it’s the NFL and on just the wrong day, a bunch of guys can go from ramped up to cooled off and befuddled as to why they are behind.

I think Demarcus Lawrence is the outspoken motor behind the entire team, and he won’t let anything get past them. After hearing him talk all offseason about what he wants the mindset of the defense to be, it frightens me for opponents.

When a guy says you gotta hit or you aren’t gonna be out on the field, it forces teammates to want to be playmakers or they realize they won’t be respected in the locker room, and this is the best form of accountability we’ve seen in a long time.

And What About Dak

Let’s cool off for a little bit. Dak Prescott’s contract situation could go a number of ways, but it looks like the Cowboys are trying to put all of the things in place for him to have no excuses as well as making sure this team is together for about 4-5 years. I think Dak will get the opportunity to show that either A) he’s still that consistent leader who can guide the team to many regular season victories and compete in the playoffs B) he can be the guy who transcends.

I don’t expect the Cowboys to get a deal done this season for him, but I also don’t think it matters at the moment.
