ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Cowboys view today's visit to AT&T Stadium by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as "a playoff game'' due to what it means for Dallas. But they are about to make official a roster move that reflects the belief that the real playoffs are more important than today.and that therefore the approach would be "no-holds barred.''

Sources tell me that Pro Bowl linebacker Sean Lee will likely be a "healthy scratch'' for today's noon kickoff, a decision that reflects a number of thoughts from inside the organization, mostly that they wish to "save'' him for the NFL Playoffs.

“I missed enough time this year and missed a lot of time recently,” Lee said Friday. “So we are trying to get healthy and get back to form and get ready down the stretch, hopefully, get a win and get in the playoffs. The goal is to be part of this group throughout the playoffs and being able to compete.”

Maybe "be part of this group throughout the playoffs'' was Sean's way of dropping a hint. In a sense, the move is odd in that Lee, after missing five weeks with the hamstring problem, pronounced himself 100-percent healthy for last week's game at Indianapolis, though he played a reserve role in that 23-0 loss, playing only seven snaps. The decision is also reflective of the faith the team has in young standout linebackers Jaylon Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith. And then there is the issue of trying to find seven men to move from the 53-man roster today to the seven-man inactive list.

So Sean Lee -- arguably, along with defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence this 8-6 team's best defensive player -- will watch as Dallas hopes it can clinch today without him ... and then will participate once games aren't "like playoff games'' but are, rather, the real thing.
