Rick Carlisle Says Dirk Nowitzki Is Out For "At Least A Couple Of Weeks"

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Looks like the Dallas Mavericks will be without Dirk Nowitzki for the start of the 2018-2019 season.

“It’s going to be weeks, it’s going to be multiple weeks, I can tell you that," Carlisle said, about Nowtizki's injury, after Friday morning shootaround, according to Mavs.com.

“It’s going to be at least a couple of weeks, but there’s no real soft or hard date at this point,” Carlisle added. “He is doing better, but he has not done any significant court work. Because there are instances where things resolve. They get to a point where you’ve done a lot of stuff and then you can resolve quicker than expected, but right now he’s not playing for at least two weeks.”

According to the report, Nowitzki still hasn't recovered from the left ankle surgery he had back in April. “The surgery was successful,” Carlisle said. “It’s just how the foot readjusts to increased mobility, so that’s where we are. His rehab work is ongoing. We can update you in another 10 days, or something like that.”

Missing the start of the regular season is going to make it tough for the 40-year-old to catch up to Wilt Chamberlian for 5th on the All-Time Scoring List before Lebron James.

There is no real timeframe on when Nowitzki will return. He has not been in on any live Mavericks practices since the start of training camp on September 22nd.
