April 13, 2018 - 2:57 pm

ARLINGTON (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers officially called up Ronald Guzman from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday and placed Elvis Andrus on the 10-day DL.

Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday that the club was preparing to call up Guzman.

Guzman, 23, is a first baseman out of the Dominican Republic. He signed with the club as an international free agent in 2011. According to MLB Pipeline, he is the club's seventh-best prospect.

He's hitting .412 with two doubles and 1 RBI in 5 games with the Express this season. In 125 games in 2017, Guzman hit .298 with 12 home runs and 62 RBI.

Guzman will take the place of Elvis Andrus on the active roster after the club announced Thursday that he'll miss six to eight weeks with a broken elbow.

According to multiple reports Thursday, the Rangers will use Joey Gallo in the outfield and Drew Robinson in the infield while Rougned Odor and Andrus are out.
