Stephen Jones Still Believes In Cowboys Receiving Core

October 08, 2018 - 12:38 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones doesn't appear to be concerned about the performance of the team's wide receivers in Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans.

Jones was asked during his weekly appearance with the GBAG Nation if they misjudged what they believed they could get out of their wideouts and what they can do about it in the middle of the season.

"I don't think there's a lot you can do about it. I think if we continue to work on our execution, looking for combinations that work well together. ... At times, you see it clicks," Jones said. "We made a run at a No. 1 wide receiver and didn't get him (Sammy Watkins). We felt we could move the ball with this group of receivers and I think we still can."

Both of Dak Prescott's interceptions Sunday came off the hands of Cowboys receivers.

Jones was later asked why the team had zero interest in free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant with none of their current receivers having yet to cross the 200-yard mark through five games.

"We just are so focused on the guys we have. Dez has done so much for us and made so many great plays and we think so much of him but we're gonna focus on the guys that are here," Jones said.

When asked if Bryant was better than the receivers they currently have on the roster, Jones gave a similar answer.
