DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) -  From the sounds of it, Jerry and Stephen Jones believe Rico Gathers can make an impact on the Cowboys this season.

Both Jerry and Stephen joined 105.3 The Fan Friday and praised the third-year tight end's abilities.

"I like what Rico (Gathers) got. Rico is capable of making a big play, so I think you'll see us using him," Jerry said on the GBAG Nation.

"He could be a big difference maker. Certainly, he's raw. But, there's some things you just can't coach and he has that," Stephen Jones later said on The Ben and Skin Show. "He has a tremendous catch radius with his length. He's obviously huge when he does get it right. In the blocking game, he moves people. It's a work in progress though, it's not always pretty but sometimes it can be effective just because he is so big, long and strong.

"How we actually use him and how effective he can be is certainly going to be interesting to watch as we progress through this season. It's a work in progress and certainly, something that should only get better, and has a lot of upside."

The Cowboys decided to keep Gathers despite already having three other tight ends on the roster and after he was arrested for marijuana possession, last Friday.

Stephen also talked about rookie linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, this week's matchup with Carolina, and much more.
