DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Count the Big Diesel as someone that doesn't see a match between DeAndre Jordan and the Dallas Mavericks.

With rumors flying that the Mavs and Clippers are talking about a trade involving the former Texas A&M big man, Shaq says fans should temper their expectations.

"He could help them, but I don't think it'll get Dallas back to where they used to be very, very prominent, winning championships," O'Neal said Thursday on Shan & RJ. "It's not a big-guy league anymore, and DeAndre Jordan is pretty much just a shot blocker. You really can't throw the ball to him in the post and have him get you big numbers every night. Plus the guys he's going to be playing against are going to be shooting jumpers."

105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher reported on Wednesday that Dallas is focused on acquiring Jordan in a trade after the big man opts into the final year of his contract with the Clippers, with Wesley Matthews being the one heading out West.

Jordan has until Friday night to opt into the final year of his deal that will pay him $24.1 million.

If Jordan were to opt out of his contract, he would then be free to negotiate with any team, with the Mavericks certainly being one of them.

Dallas created $25 million worth of room on Wednesday when they pulled a qualifying offer they originally sent to Doug McDermott and declined to offer Noel his. The Mavs are also expected to decline Dirk Nowitzki's $5 million option and re-sign him at the end of their roster building.
