DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that QB Ben Roethlisberger's elbow will require surgery, and that he'll be placed on IR, and that he's done for the season.

"Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required." said a statement from coach Mike Tomlin. "We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season"

The 37-year-old watched the second half from the sideline Sunday in a baseball cap following a right elbow issue that popped up late in the second quarter when he grimaced several times after releasing passes.

Roethlisberger, who led the NFL in passing last season, signed an extension in March that runs through the 2021.
