DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young believes he's going to be a better player than the guy he was traded for on draft night.

Young, of course, is talking about Dallas Mavs' rookie Luka Doncic.

“The thing with Luka, he’s a great player," Young said to Sports Illustrated's Andrew Sharp. "I don’t understand why it can’t work out for both situations. I hear [Atlanta made a mistake] all the time. Luka’s a great dude, and I think he’s going to be a really good player. But at the same time, I’m going to be a better player. Just because of my ability to stretch the floor, get others involved, I think I’ll be better.”

Atlanta and Dallas swapped first-round picks in order for Dallas to select Doncic with the No. 3 overall pick. Atlanta then took the Mavs' No. 5 pick and selected Young. The Hawks also received a 2019 Top-5 protected first-round pick in the deal.

The former Oklahoma Sooner is having a great start to his career, averaging 17.5 points and just over 8 assists in 14 games as a professional. However, Luka Doncic is off to a spectacular start himself as he's averaging 19.6 points, 4.4 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Additionally, Doncic' statistics from the first 10 games of his career put him in elite company.

Per 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher, The Slovenian totaled 198 points, 65 rebounds and 44 assists in his first 10 games, and according to him, the only other player in NBA history to reach those numbers through 10 games is Oscar Robertson.

At this early stage in their careers, we can't argue who will be a better player between the two. But, maybe, Young should have just stuck with giving credit to both him and Doncic without making such a bold claim.
