FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - At last, Randy Gregory has filed for reinstatement to the NFL, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

In July of 2019, 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher broke the detailed story of Gregory's plan to get back into the league after he was suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy in Feb. 2019. Ten days later, Fish followed up with two members of the defensive end's legal team, who both were optimistic about his chances.

What followed was silence, and then word came that Gregory never filed the paperwork, after all.

In Fish's many stories on and his many conversations with Gregory, the gifted former second-round pick who struggles with issues that include marijuana use, he's stressed that this really needs to be about Gregory the person rather than Gregory the football player.

We're left to conclude that Gregory stumbled again when he didn't apply for reinstatement last year ... but we were told last month (and mentioned on 105.3 The Fan) that we're hearing he's ready to take another shot at the NFL now.

"I'm working very hard to get to a place where I can be in control,'' Gregory told Fish last month. "It will be a happier place.''
