DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Trade talks for Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler have basically gone dormant in the opening week of the NBA season.

The 29-year-old Houston native appeared to be headed to the Miami Heat in a trade but it fell apart prior to the start of the season.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, several teams remain interested in acquiring Butler, including the Dallas Mavericks.

Windhorst appeared on Alex Kennedy’s podcast last weekend and said that the Mavs, the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Heat continue to monitor Butler's situation.

Windhorst noted that the Mavs and Clippers know that they can sign Butler outright in the offseason, so they may not be willing to part with a key piece to acquire him.

Butler requested a trade out of Minnesota and initially refused to report to training camp. With no deal in sight, Butler opted to return to the team and has appeared in four of the team's five games. He's averaging 24.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
