Report: Elvis Andrus Targeting June Return From Fractured Elbow

May 02, 2018 - 3:56 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus, who was originally targeting a late May return from a fractured ulna bone in his right elbow, won't be ready until June at the earliest.

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Andrus says his recovery isn't going as quickly as he originally hoped.

"It's taking longer than I thought," Andrus told Wilson. "I feel better every day, but I've got to take it slowly instead of trying to hurry and not feel good when I'm there playing.

"I was aiming for the end of this month, but I wasn't true to myself. In my head, I thought it would be an easy comeback. I'm going to need more than that."

Due to the Rangers claiming catcher Carlos Perez off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, Texas went ahead and placed Andrus on the 60-day disabled list to make room for Perez on the roster. With Andrus moving to the 60-day DL, the earliest he can return is June 11.

Jeff Wilson reports that Andrus will see team Doctor Keith Meister on Thursday or Friday to determine the next step in his recovery process.
