Report: Dirk Still Weeks Away From Returning

October 31, 2018 - 3:37 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks are off to a slow start through seven games and they won't be getting any help from their future Hall of Fame forward anytime soon.

Speaking with the media Wednesday, Dirk Nowitzki indicated that he was still "weeks" away from a return to the court with soreness in his foot, per Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News.

"We're taking it super slow obviously now since we've had a couple setbacks as I've increased the workload," he said to Sefko and other reporters. "I'm starting really from zero. I haven't had much court work or running in weeks now. Hopefully, we can increase here from day to day. Running on the court soon, hopefully, that's the next step. It's going to be a fight to get back in game shape so I can stay out there and play a little bit.

"We're still looking at weeks at this point. I haven't even started running on the court or running quick on the treadmill. I've just been slowly jogging and see how the foot reacts. Unfortunately, we're still talking weeks over days."

The Mavericks will look to improve on their 2-5 record when they take on LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at the Staples Center.
