DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Former Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is heading back to his alma mater.

Murray will be the next running backs coach at Oklahoma, the football program announced Monday afternoon. Murray spent last season in the same position at the University of Arizona.

Murray released a statement on Twitter confirming he'd return to Norman in 2020.

"Excited to be back home where it all started! Can’t thank @LincolnRiley enough for this opportunity and look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and getting ready to work!!"

Murray is the Sooners' all-time leader in purpose yards and touchdowns scored.

The Cowboys selected Murray with the No. 71 pick in the third round of the 2011 draft. He was the 2014 offensive player of the year that season when he rushed for a league-leading 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The 31-year-old last played in the NFL with the Titans in 2017.
