Report: Astros Agree To Deal With Robinson Chirinos

December 04, 2018 - 3:55 pm

ARLINGTON (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers will be seeing a lot of Robinson Chirinos next season, albeit in another uniform, as the catcher agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Astros, according to Mark Berman at Fox 26 in Houston.

The Rangers declined Chirinos' $4.5 million option club option for 2019 on Nov. 2, and instead opted to sign a better defensive catcher in Jeff Mathis to a two-year, $6.25 million contract.

Chirinos, one of the leaders in the Rangers' clubhouse, hit just .222/.338/.419 with 18 home runs and 65 RBI in 113 games this past season.
