FRISCO (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys bosses Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett on Wednesday made their first comments about the newly signed star running back Ezekiel Elliott. And the comments were all about 'love' and 'heart.'

At the same time, we got our first look at Elliott on the field as a newly-minted $103 Million man.

"Zeke has been arguably our best player,'' Jones said during an appearance on 'Squawk on the Street' on CNBC. "I'm not trying to be unfair to anybody else but he's an incremental part to our success, and we're glad to have him on the team.''

Garrett's position, speaking from his daily press conference podium here at The Star in Frisco, was a similar one.

"Everybody loves Zeke,'' said Garrett, who noted that the two-time NFL rushing champion will participate in this practice as Dallas readies for Sunday's season-opener against the visiting Giants. "He brings great energy and we're excited to have him back."

The Cowboys' deal with Elliott is billed as a six-year extension totaling $90 million, with $50 million guaranteed. Tack that onto his existing deal and the contract spans eight years and totals $103 million. At one point, the Cowboys weren't too keen on long-term money at this position. But 1) there are "escape hatches'' built into the deal and 2), hey, maybe Elliott is that special.

"He plays a position with some pretty interesting dynamics to it because running backs are short-lived,'' Jerry said. "Although, we had what I consider to be one of the top-five greatest ones in Emmitt Smith, and Emmitt ran the ball for 13 years ... Zeke has a big heart and now he's got a thick pocketbook, too."
