DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlise hired a former WNBA coach to his coaching staff on Wednesday.

Jenny Boucek, 44, previously spent time with the Sacramento Kings organization and previously coached the Seattle Storm and Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA.

“Jenny is a veteran WNBA head coach and was a player development coach last season for the Sacramento Kings,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “She will be involved in wide-ranging basketball assignments.

“I consider her one of the brightest minds in our game and welcome her to Dallas.”

Boucek, a Virginia University alum like Carlisle, will join the team as an assistant to the basketball staff for special projects.

She becomes the first woman to be hired to the Dallas Mavericks coaching staff since the franchise began in 1980.

Boucek was joined on the Kings staff last season by Nancy Lieberman. Becky Hammon (San Antonio Spurs) is the only other female coach in the NBA.
