Luis Ortiz Named Texas Rangers Hitting Coach

ARLINGTON (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers announced a number of coaching decisions Wednesday, including their next hitting coach. 

The club has named Los Angeles Dodgers assistant hitting instructor Luis Ortiz as their hitting coach. Ortiz was on the Dodgers staff with new Rangers manager Chris Woodward. 

Ortiz previously played for the Rangers in 1995 and 1996 and was a hitting coordinator in the organization from 2008 to 2012. He currently resides in North Richland Hills. 

Texas also that Don Wakamatsu will return as the bench coach, Jayce Tingler has been named the major league player development field coordinator, Tony Beasley returns as third-base coach and Hector Ortiz will be the first-base coach. 

Additionally, Steve Buechele has been named a special assistant, while pitching coach Doug Brocail and assistant pitching coach Dan Warthen will not return.
