DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - As the Cowboys prepare to make cuts following the end of the preseason, the team is preparing for the start of the regular season without one main player.

Will Ezekiel Elliott's contract be finished and will he be ready to play? Jerry Jones says the team is preparing to move on without him.

"We are where we are and I expect us to be lining up against the Giants without Zeke" said Jones.

When pressed about the status of the negotiations with Elliott, Jerry always refuses to discuss the details citing legal reasons. But when talking about contracts in general, Jones said "If we do a (new) contract, what's to assure us that this time next year, or 3 months later, we won't be talking about another contract..if we're not going to honor contracts?"

The two other key players, Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, still do not have deals in place are not sitting out, but getting ready to play in Week 1.

"Amari and Dak are very engaged with what we are doing this week" said Jones.

"We're in the middle of our consideration of how we're going to make these cuts," said Jones. But later he confirmed that Taco Charlton would be making the final roster.

"I feel real good about all of our starters (health)" said Jones.
