Jon Daniels Says Market Never Materialized For Mike Minor

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Rangers general manager Jon Daniels joined the Ben and Skin Show after the trade deadline passed on Wednesday.

The Rangers elected not to move any players besides reliever Chris Martin, who they traded to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

Several players including Mike Minor and Hunter Pence were on the trade block but ultimately remained in Texas.

Daniels said some deals were close but never came together.

"We had a lot of talks with pretty much every club at some point. We were open to moving some of our guys. We also pursued some big-leaguers. Ultimately, for what we wanted to accomplish and what the appetite was out on the market for certain things ... we didn't line up. We decided it was better to not push it and try to make a headline to make a bad deal, so we stood down at the end."

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that the Rangers were never close on making a deal involving Minor because the market didn't shape up. Additionally, Grant reports the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays were interested in Pence but they went in other directions.

Daniels touched on the prospect they acquired in the Martin deal, Kolby Allard, and discussed several other things.
