Daniels On Hamels: "We Expected Him To Do Well; A Pennant Race Motivates Guys"

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cole Hamels continued his string of successful starts with the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night, leaving the Rangers to ponder how things could have turned out differently in the final month before he was traded.

Hamels has given up just two earned runs in 18 innings of work with Chicago after allowing 25 earned runs over his last 22 innings with Texas.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels discussed Hamels performance with the Ben and Skin Show on Tuesday and said it was a topic of discussion amongst the front office.

"I think we expected him to do well. I think the Cubs did well in getting him. He's healthy, and I think his stuff has been as good as it had been," Daniels said on 105.3 The Fan. "He had some stuff, just general things going on from a distraction standpoint ... which everybody has ... which I think played a little bit of a role in it. But I also think sometimes that a change of scenery, just getting into a pennant race kind of motivates guys, especially when we're talking about guys that are among the best in the game."
