July 25, 2019 - 2:37 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Texas Rangers' All-Star outfielder, Joey Gallo will undergo surgery to repair a broken hamate bone in his right wrist.

Gallo exited Tuesday night's 7-2 win over the Seattle Mariners in the eighth inning with a sore wrist, which has been bothering him for a while, manager Chris Woodward said. Gallo initially had an  X-ray after coming out of the game, the results were negative, and the follow-up MRI was inconclusive. After meeting with hand specialist Dr. Thomas Diliberti it was determined the hamate bone was broken and Gallo would have to undergo surgery to repair it.

The Athletic's Levi Weaver is reporting that Gallo is expected to have the surgery today:

According to Weaver, the recovery time for the surgery is usually 3-6 weeks.

Gallo had been on pace for an MVP caliber season with 22 home runs and 49 RBIs.
