Jerry Jones On Amari Cooper's 180-Yard Performance: We Needed Him

November 22, 2018 - 8:07 pm

ARLINGTON (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys knew they needed a receiver like Amari Cooper, owner Jerry Jones said after the 31-23 win on Thanksgiving.

Dallas had been missing a big play threat when they traded a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for Cooper. He responded by scoring three touchdowns in four games since being acquired, including two tonight.

"I can't tell you what kind of celebration I had in my mind when we got it done (the trade)," Jones said. "We needed him. We sure needed a receiver of his stature. And my hats off to the coaches for getting him into a position to make that kind of contribution.

"There's no question he's added a spark. I'm so pleased with the way he's so focused in. He's really been absorbing what we really need him to do offensively because on any down he's capable of making the big play,"

Cooper had eight catches on nine targets for the two touchdowns and 180 yards. Half of the yards came on a 90-yard touchdown in the second half to blow the game open.

"I've just been putting in extra time with my coaches, with Dak. Just trying to catch up and be on the same page. For some reason, since I got here, the chemistry between me and Dak has been phenomenal," Cooper said. ... "I don’t want to prove the Raiders wrong. I just want to prove the Cowboys right.”
