DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones closed the door on a potential return for former receiver Dez Bryant.

During his weekly interview with the GBAG Nation on 105.3 The Fan, Jones was asked about Bryant's tweet in which he expressed a desire to return to the Cowboys:

"We feel good about Dez and wish him the very best. Trust me, if it were in our best interests, his and ours, he'd be on the field for the Cowboys," Jones said.

Bryant was asked on social media Tuesday where he'd like to play and he responded by saying he'd "rather it be with the Dallas Cowboys." Bryant added that if that's not a possibility then he'll play somewhere else.

Bryant announced on social media last week that he was ready to return to the field and has been working out while dealing with some mental health issues.

"I’m going to be ready this go around. X. God got me through some tough times being away from the field.. no way I could play with the anxiety depression panic attacks that I was dealing with. I promise to keep him with me through the remainder of my life..no more picking and choosing.. as much as I express my love for the game that’s how I’m going to express the love for you God."

The Cowboys elected to release Bryant in April and moved foward with a receiving core of Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Terrance Williams, Michael Gallup, Tavon Austin and Cole Beasley. Through four games, the receiving core has amassed just 524 yards receiving while quarterback Dak Prescott has thrown for over 200 yards only once. Dallas recently added a familiar face in Brice Butler to the depth chart but he has yet to see any action since being signed.

Over the course of the last several months, Bryant has called out his former Cowboys teammates, coaches and front office members on social media, blaming them for his release from the team, while praising owner Jerry Jones. He has flirted with the Cleveland Browns and turned down an offer from the Baltimore Ravens while he determined what his future was in the NFL.

Bryant, selected by Dallas in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft, amassed 531 catches for 7,459 yards in his eight-year career with the Cowboys. The Lufkin native is the club's all-time leader in touchdown receptions (73).
