Jason Garrett Understands "The Business Side" Of Martin's OTA Absence

May 23, 2018 - 11:18 am

FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett understands why his starting guard was missing at the beginning of the teams OTAs on Tuesday.

Garrett says Martin has been in the building working out but he won't be participating in practice again Wednesday.

"This is the business side of the NFL. He's handled himself perfectly right from the start. I know there's on-going dialogue between him and the Joneses," Garrett told media members Wednesday.

Martin and the Cowboys are currently in a contract dispute as he enters the final year of his five-year rookie deal.

"The negotiations are not going well, obviously," 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher says. "It's been two years of talks involving Martin and the Cowboys trying to get him a two-year extension that would make him a Cowboys for life and would make him the highest paid guard in football."

Martin has made the Pro Bowl all four years of his career. He's been named an All-Pro twice and a second-team All-Pro once.
