NEW YORK (105.3 The Fan) - Ezekiel Elliott has won the NFL rushing title for the second time in his three-year career despite sitting out the Cowboys come-from-behind 36-35 win over the New York Giants on Sunday.

Elliott joins Emmitt Smith as the second Cowboys' running back to lead the league in rushing more than one time, according to Pat Doney of NBC 5.

Elliott finished the season with 1,434 yards on the ground, followed by the Giants' Saquon Barkley with 1,307 yards, and the L.A. Rams' Todd Gurley, who finished with 1,251 yards after also sitting out Sunday.

The Cowboys elected to keep Elliott out of Sunday's game after proclaiming all week that all healthy players will play. By holding him out, the Cowboys ensured that Elliott will be fresh for next weekend's home playoff matchup against the Seattle Seahawks or the Minnesota Vikings.
