Emmitt Smith Okay With Garrett Not Getting Extension: "It Leaves Jerry Flexibility"

February 01, 2019 - 12:19 pm

ATLANTA (105.3 The Fan) - Former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith joined Shan and RJ on radio row in Atlanta Friday morning.

The guys asked Smith about the recent news that Jerry Jones is not expected to give head coach Jason Garrett an extension as he enters the final year of his contract in 2019.

Smith said he's okay with the decision and because it put the pressure on Garrett.

"I think it's a good way to approach it. It leaves Jerry with the flexability to do whatever he needs to do. Why put yourself in a pickle that you have to unravel when you need to," Smith said.

"Jason Garrett understands. Even though he was able to right the ship this year and took the team one game away from the NFC championship game. He did a great job coaching. You start off 3-5 and everyone is calling for your head ... to hold that team together and to keep them motivated ... that is a victory all alone."
