With Young Stars In Tow, Dirk Nowitzki Still Pondering One More Season

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dirk Nowitzki had another solid performance as a starter in the Mavericks 110-101 win over Indiana in Dallas Wednesday night.

After recording 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 22 minutes, Nowitzki was asked if his improved health and play, combined with the bright future of the team, improve the chances of him playing next season?

“Yeah, I don’t know,” he said, via Mavs.com. “I haven’t really thought about it. But I’d love to be there for the young guys one more year. But it depends on how the body feels. I’ve had some issues this year. I had some knee swelling the last few weeks before the All-Star break, so it’s not all great. But like I said, I am feeling better, feeling a little stronger.

“I think I’ll make that decision later on. But I think the future is bright. I think Luka and KP if they stay healthy and stay together should be a great combo and should be playing great off of each other. They both have an incredible skill set for their size. They should jell well, but we’ll have to see how it goes next year.”

Nowitzki is averaging 12.7 points in his three starts and has hit 8-of-22 3-pointers (36.4 percent) from 3-point range. He's just 69 points away from passing Wilt Chamberlain for sixth place on the all-time scoring list.
