DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - After locking up pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence last month, the Cowboys have turned their attention to negotiating extensions with Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper.

COO Stephen Jones told reporters (including 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher) at the team's annual golf tournament that the team is focused on re-signing two of their best offensive players whose deals are set to expire after the upcoming season.

“If we can talk them into not maxing out -- doing well, but not maxed -- that allows us to have other good football players around them," Jones said of Cooper, Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.

Jones did acknowledge that the onus is on him and his father, Jerry, to worry about the salary cap, but he did take a similar approach in contract negotiations with Lawrence.

Jones also pointed out that Cooper and Prescott take precedence over Elliott because the running back is under contract for two more years. After those three players, Jones mentioned a desire to do future deals with Byron Jones, La'el Collins and Jaylon Smith.

“I feel very good that we’re going to strategically work through getting guys like Dak and Amari and Zeke done. And I think we can still do others,” said Jones.

Fisher says that the rumored $30 million-per-year number linked to Prescott is an acceptable part of the conversation.
