FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys are a long way from Sunday and a long way from having their starting offensive tackles back in the lineup. But Thursday marks a step forward for Tyron Smith and La'el Collins and both did "individual work'' on the sideline, in helmets, along with their O-line teammates here inside The Star.

It's assumed they did not do on-field work after that, with subs Cameron Fleming (at left tackle for Smith) and Brandon Knight (at right tackle for Collins) taking their spots - with plans to do the same for the Week 7 visit from the Philadelphia Eagles in the battle for first place in the NFC East.

Not all of the O-line news is good news, as another starter, guard Zack Martin, was absent today with what we'll assume is maintenance for his sore back. (Backup center Joe Looney is also absent.)

Meanwhile, predictably, wide receivers Amari Cooper (quadriceps) and Randall Cobb (back) were not on the field during the media-open portion of practice, a repeat of their Wednesday status. We're told there is still hope that Cobb plays on Sunday ... but not much hope for Cooper.

Cornerbacks Byron Jones and Anthony Brown are both absent as well, each of them dealing with hamstring injuries.
