ATLANTA - A Dallas Cowboys locker room celebration on Sunday in Atlanta following the team’s 22-19 walk-off win turned somber, sources tell me, when a sister of rookie Michael Gallup arrived from her seat at the game to deliver tragic news: One of the Gallup brothers is dead, of what I'm told is an apparent suicide.

Team owner Jerry Jones referred to a “tragic loss'' before addressing the win, but respectfully said little more. Gallup, a starting receiver, did not return to DFW on the team charter, instead staying behind to be with his family, which is based in nearby Monroe, Georgia.

Michael is part of a large family that includes eight kids of mother Jenny, six of them adopted, including Michael. Jenny is reportedly on a month-long mission trip in Africa and was scheduled to return to the States on Monday. The sister was part of a group in attendance at the game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Cowboys, a 3-5 team a week ago, have won two straight road games against a pair of teams with “contender” reputations, last week at Philadelphia and here against the Falcons. At 5-5, their attention now turns to the Washington Redskins, who visit AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Thursday for a Thanksgiving showdown for the lead in the NFC East. But first, their attention stays with Gallup, as do our thoughts and prayers.
