Banny On Mazara: "We're Watching A Young Guy Turn Into A Superstar"

May 10, 2018 - 4:00 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - One day after Nomar Mazara won the Texas Rangers their first home series of the season, manager Jeff Banister was heaping major praise upon him.

During Bannister's weekly appearance with the GBAG Nation on 105.3 The Fan, he was asked about a conversation he had with Adrian Beltre after Mazara hit the first of his two home run against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

"In between innings, there are times where I'll go down and look at some video and Adrian's usually in there (he was the DH). We talk quite a bit about all of our players really. His insights, his thoughts, what he sees ... we kind of compare notes and go back and forth. And so, after the first home run, we're both looking at the video of his swing, and the pitch and the ball, and I turned to him and said, 'we're watching a young guy turn himself into a superstar right in front of us,'" Banny said.

Mazara has been on a major tear so far in the month of May. After nine games, he's tied for the MLB lead in home runs (7) with Washington National Matt Adams and has an OPS of 1.425.

Banister also talked about Delino Deshields recent strong play and Rougned Odor's expected return from the disabled list on Friday.
