DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Dirk Nowitzki ended his NBA career in San Antonio Wednesday night, but the Spurs welcomed him with a message that brought him to tears.

The San Antonio Spurs played a video before the game with highlights from Nowitzki's career. Above the video board, the Spurs displayed the message, "Thank you, Dirk."

"That got me all emotional. That was an unbelievable video. Thank you to the Spurs organization," Nowitzki said after the game. "That was super classy, and I have nothing but respect."

"One word: amazing," Coach Rick Carlisle said. "The amount of adrenaline going through him must have been something else."

The Mavs lost 105-94, but Nowitzki scored 20 points.

The Mavericks returned home about midnight. Love Field welcomed the team's jet with a water cannon salute. Dirk waved at fans and smiled as he left the plane and walked down the stairs.

He signed autographs and took pictures with fans who had gathered outside the hangar.

Thursday morning, Reunion Tower was lit up like the German flag with the message, "Danke Dirk."
