Goodbye Cap Space: Mavericks Begin Signing Restricted Free Agents

July 10, 2019 - 1:22 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks salary cap space is no more after the team announced this afternoon that they have signed restricted free agent, Maxi Kleber.

Dallas had around $14.6 million left in room to improve the roster through trade or free agency, however, the cap space disappears once they sign their restricted free agents. Dallas began that process when Kleber put pen to paper Wednesday, ending fans' hopes that the team wasn't done roster building for next season.

The Mavericks have yet to officially sign restricted free agents Kristaps Porzingis and Dorian Finney-Smith. Although, those should be announced shortly with Kleber agreeing to his deal.  It was previously reported that Kleber and Dallas agreed to a three-year, $35 million deal with a team option for a fourth year.

According to Bobby Marks and Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Dallas will have an $11.8 million trade exception at its disposal after acquiring Delon Wright with part of the $21.3 million trade exception they received after trading Harrison Barnes to Sacramento.

This is a developing news story.
