AUSTIN (105.3 THE FAN) - Former Dallas Mavericks great Dirk Nowitzki is being honored today in Austin in both the House and Senate for his 21 years in the NBA with the team.

Representative John Turner of Dallas made mention that Nowitzki lives in his district.

"Not only he is an MVP, and a 14-time all-star, sixth leading scorer in the NBA, an NBA champion, but those of us in Dallas know about his civic leadership. His charitable work. His unpublicized visits to children's hospitals. His charity baseball game that sells out Rough Riders stadium every single year. Also his humility and the loyalty to the city and team he has played for 21 years," he says.

Nowitzki met with Governor Greg Abbott today before going to the capital floor. "We are so proud of you," Abbott said of Nowitzki. "The greatest player in the history of the Dallas Mavericks and one of the greatest players in NBA history."

Nowitzki received a standing ovation in the House. Members could be seen lining up to take a photo with him.
