Cowboys Owner Jones Discusses Team Cuts And Reasons For Bailey Being Waived

September 04, 2018 - 8:57 am

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says for All-Pro kicker Dan Bailey, it wasn't necessarily what he did or didn't do to get waived from the team after a 7-year run, but what the other kicker did do.

"We're so appreciative of Dan and his career with the Cowboys. His contributions have been immense," said team owner Jerry Jones as he explained his thoughts on the recent Cowboys team cuts, to get down to the required 53-man roster, on his weekly radio show with The Fan's Shan & RJ show.

"We felt that we could get the same strategy, impact, that a kicker like Bailey gave us, we felt we could get that from another guy that fit our cap- fit our team better," said Jones when asked why the team waived Bailey.

"We got real comfortable with how Maher was kicking and the kind of off-season he had," said Jones.

Jones praised Bailey for his past career-long accomplishments (186 of 211 attempts, 56-yard longest FG) with the Cowboys, but added, "It's what the other boy (Brett Maher) did."

Jones would not discuss if the Cowboys would have asked Bailey to take a pay cut.
