FRISCO (105.3 THE FAN) -  The Dallas Cowboys will be without starting tight end Geoff Swaim for an undetermined time due to wrist surgery as a result of an injury suffered in the win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Swaim, solid in his first season as a starter replacing the retired future Hall of Famer Jason Witten, broke a bone in his wrist on the final and game-winning possession at Atlanta.

Over the course of this year, the Unviersity of Texas product has battled through a sprained knee.on his way to catching 26 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown this year. He'll definitely miss this Thursday's Thanksgiving visit from the Redskins in a showdown for leadership in the NFC East.

In his absence. the Cowboys will attempt to get production out of second-year pro Blake Jarwin, fourth-round rookie Dalton Schultz and former Baylor basketball star Rico Gathers.

Schultz, chosen from Stanford in last April's NFL Draft, is the player Dallas thinks can be a future standout at the position, especially as he's the most suited for traditional in-line Y blocking. But the club sees (unfulfilled) promise in Jarwin, too.

And of course, Gathers is the most ballyhooed of the bunch due to his unique athletic gifts.
