DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving's full-speed return to the team lineup has been slowed today by what two sources are saying is an ankle injury that required him to be carted off the field.

Ari Temkin reports that Irving was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot with crutches.

The fact that Irving has struggled to remain available for the Cowboys for a variety of reasons is well-documented in this space.

From suffering a concussion in 2017 to suspensions, to emotional dealings with his personal matters, Irving has yet to realize the potential suggested by his freakish athletic skills.

Today was supposed to be a celebratory one for him, for as the Cowboys prepare to host the Titans on Monday, Irving is also preparing for his new role as a team NFLPA players rep alternate - a job sources tell me he sought when urged by his friends to "put your money where your mouth is" on subjects like the NFL's policy on marijuana use.
