Competition Committee Proposes Language For NFL's "Catch Rule"

March 21, 2018 - 1:00 pm

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The NFL's competition committee says it's ready to present their proposal for the 'catch rule.'

NFL Vice President of Officiating, Al Riveron, tweeted the proposal out Wednesday.

According to the committee's recommendations, in order for a catch to be complete, it must contain the following:

1. Control

2. 2 feet down or another body part

3. A football move:

  • A 3rd step
  • Reaching/extending for the line-to-gain
  • or the ability to perform such an act

Riveron and the committee will recommend the language at the league's annual meeting next week.

The committee came up with the language after getting input from coaches, players and former players, and club executives.
