Allen, Aledo Still On Top With Texas High School Football Playoffs Looming

November 05, 2018 - 1:44 pm

No change at the top in the state's two largest high school football classifications.

As they have been all season, the Allen Eagles and Aledo Bearcats remained at No. 1 in their respective classes in the Associated Press Texas high school poll released Monday afternoon.

The top ten in Class 6A was unchanged from last week.  Allen (9-0) is first, followed by Galena Park North Shore (9-0), Converse Judson (8-0), Longview (9-0) and Duncanville (9-0) at No. 5.  Southlake Carroll (9-0) remained at No. 6.  Haltom is at No. 12, Cedar Hill is 13th and DeSoto is 16th.  Cedar Hill and DeSoto meet Thursday night.  Along with Mansfield Lake Ridge, the two are currently in a three-way tie for the district lead in 7-6A.

The North Texas trifecta of Aledo, Highland Park and Denton Ryan stayed 1-2-3 for another week in Class 5A.  All three teams are 9-0 heading into their final regular season games this weekend.  Frisco Reedy (9-0) is at No. 9 for another week.  Among the other teams receiving votes, Frisco is 17th in 5A, unbeaten Birdville (faces #3 Denton Ryan this week) is 18th and The Colony is at No. 21.

Just like the two highest classifications, the top ten was unchanged in the latest 4A poll.  Number two Argyle (9-0) continues to pick up first-place votes, but remains one spot behind top-ranked Carthage (9-0).  Midlothian Heritage (8-1) is at No. 6 for another week, while Glen Rose (7-1) remained at No. 10.  Stephenville is at No. 15 in 4A, while Sunnyvale is 17th.

In Class 3A, unbeaten Gunter (9-0) is at No. 2 for another week, while Brock (8-1) moved up a notch to No. 3.

In 2A, Muenster (8-1) stayed at No. 8.
